Police Reports


Assault

June 13. A Cedar Lane resident reported that his 15-year-old daughter was assaulted by several other Teaneck High School female students, who followed her while she was walking home from school.  The daughter stopped in the 7/11 store on Cedar Lane and was attacked as she walked out. A member of the group grabbed her arm and dragged her while others called her names. The victim was struck on the right side of her forehead but said that she did not strike back. The assailant punched, kicked and scratched her until the victim’s cousin came and broke up the fight.

Burglary/theft

June 13. A Griggs Avenue resident reported that he was sleeping in his upstairs bedroom at about 8 a.m. when he heard footsteps outside the door.  Someone then opened the door and the victim heard unintelligible words. His brother, who had been sleeping in the basement, was also awakened by noise of someone in the house. Neither brother saw the intruder, who had fled before police arrived. Nothing was reported missing, but police found that the rear door of the house had been pried open.

June 14. The owner of Jersey Oil on Teaneck Road reported that his manager called him at about 6 a.m. informing him that the business had been entered during the night. The owner said that the doors had been secured and the burglar alarm set when the business closed at midnight. The manager discovered that the credit card machine was not working and the phone line had been cut. In addition, an air conditioner had been removed from an office at the rear of the building and the office ransacked. Missing items included two Dell computers with monitors and keyboards, two cell phones, a printer, a fax machine, a paper shredder and the air conditioner. The office is part of a separate business and the owner of the business was notified. Police followed a trail of shredded paper from the back of the office to Genesee Avenue where the trail ended.

June 14. The manager of 7/11 on Cedar Lane observed a juvenile female place a Milky Way bar and a pack of Orbit gum in her purse. The manager locked the front door and called police. The juvenile was released to the custody of her mother. The manager said he would sign a complaint and provide video surveillance tape of the attempted theft.

June 14. A Maple Avenue resident reported that two hanging lantern lights were taken from her front lawn. A similar incident occurred in April when two lantern lights valued at $30 each were stolen. Several days following the April incident, the victim was walking her dog when she found the lights lying on a neighbor’s front lawn, as if they had been thrown there.

June 16. An Intervale Road resident reported that sometime from 6 p.m. on June 13 to 10 a.m. June 16 various tools were taken from his unlocked garage. Missing items included an air compressor valued at $200; a 16-foot ladder valued at $200; a 32-foot ladder valued at $280; 40-foot ladder valued at $350; and a chop saw valued at $219.

June 16. A Selvage Avenue resident reported that her cell phone valued at $649 was stolen while she was at the Bank of America on Palisade Avenue. She said that she put the phone on the teller’s counter and realized when she arrived home that it was not in her possession. She returned to the bank but was told the phone had not been turned in.

June 16. An employee of Sal’s Auto Repair on Palisade Avenue reported that he was repositioning vehicles in the lot when he noticed that a customer’s 1998 Nissan Pathfinder was missing. The customer, a Teaneck resident, was informed and said he had not removed the vehicle.

June 17. A New Milford resident reported that unknown persons had entered his landscaping trailer while he was working in a yard on Church Street and removed two backpack blowers valued at $600 each. The trailer had been left unlocked.

June 18. A West Englewood Avenue resident reported that his 1991 Toyota Corolla was stolen while parked overnight on Mersereu Terrace. Documents, including the vehicle’s registration papers, and about $200 in cash were in the glove compartment.

Criminal mischief

June 12. A Genesee Avenue resident reported that when she returned home from Holy Name Hospital at 4:30 p.m. she noticed two small scratches on the hood of her 2005 Chevrolet Equinox.

June 12. A West Tryon Avenue resident reported that eggs had been thrown at the front of her home. No damage was reported.

June 14. Graffiti was discovered on the STOP sign at the intersection of Terhune Street and Larch Avenue. The words "Juan Light" were written in black letters.  

Fraud

June 12. A Dickerson Road resident reported that an unknown person charged an Earthlink modem and several items from Blockbusters to her master card account. The modem was valued at $19.95 and the Blockbusters purchases at $22.10.  Both accounts were newly opened without the victim’s authorization.

June 12. A Griggs Avenue resident reported five unauthorized charges for cellular phone services totaling more than $1,000 had been billed to his Visa account.

June 18. A Teaneck Road resident reported that he received a credit card statement from Bank of America containing six unauthorized purchases totaling $85.

Threats

June 12. A Holland Terrace resident reported that while driving a used car that he had purchased from another individual, he felt that something was wrong with the car and telephoned the seller informing him that he would put a hold on his check until the car had been checked by a mechanic. The seller responded that the car was in perfect condition. The complainant later phoned the seller and informed him that he did not want the car and that the seller should pick it up. When the seller came to the complainant’s house, the two men began arguing. The seller told the complainant that neither the police nor his dog would protect him and that he should watch his back.
